Wood screws<\/h2>\n

Fittings used to be fastened with straight-slotted wood screws. It is important that older model fittings are fastened with straight-slotted wood screws and not with modern cross-slotted or Torx screws. Nowadays, it can be difficult, sometimes impossible, to find straight-slotted screws in hardware or building supply stores. However, Eskilstuna Kulturbeslag can supply wood screws with straight slots for all fittings that need to be fastened with screws.<\/p>\n

Our wood screws comply with the old Swedish standard. The thickness is specified in numerical dimensions based on an original English thread gauge, and the length is specified in English inches.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, wooden screws are no longer manufactured in Sweden. The most common dimensions in the range are newly manufactured screws from a German manufacturer. These screws are roll-threaded and partially threaded. Other dimensions come from old stock, primarily from Aug. Stenmans\/Assas. These screws are partially threaded and turned. Dimensions and lengths do not always correspond between Swedish and German standards. Consult your dealer or Eskilstuna Kulturbeslag if in doubt.<\/p>\n

There are additional reasons to use screws with straight chisel grooves. Most fittings are painted over sooner or later. When these fittings need to be removed in the future for maintenance or replacement, it will be very difficult to clean a paint-filled cross slot or Torx grip so that you can access it with a screwdriver. A straight screw slot is always easy to clean.<\/p>\n

The screws supplied are delivered in exact quantities in relation to the number of fittings. Screws in packages are always packed 200 per box. Screw packages are divided at an additional cost.<\/p>\n

As with all production, there are dimensional variations in both diameter and length. For permissible manufacturing tolerances, refer to German standards, e.g., DIN 97 and DIN 267<\/p>\n

This screw is manufactured according to the German DIN standard, which means that it does not fully correspond to the old Swedish standard. The dimension and length tables below indicate the dimensions of the screws we provide.<\/p>\n

Nails<\/h2>\n

Before machine manufacturing of wood screws began in the mid-19th century, most fittings were fastened with hand-forged nails and\/or rivets. Even after the transition to machine-made screws, nails continued to be used for some fittings such as star hooks and angle hinges with associated corner irons.<\/p>\n
